Throughout the company’s history, Grupo Marta Hospitality and its affiliate tour operator have managed six different international brands.
With the opening of the Best Western San José Downtown in 1990, Grupo Marta Hospitality introduced the Best Western brand to Costa Rica. The group’s Irazú hotel and Jacó Beach resort followed suit closely after. Also, the company decided to promote further hotel affiliations, attaining a network of eleven Costa Rican Best Westerns.

The first Hampton Inn in the country was inaugurated by Grupo Marta in 1994. In 2001, company expansion continued when the first Hampton Inn & Suites opened its doors to the public. Since then, and for strategic reasons, the first Hampton Inn dropped its flag and reflagged in 2008 as a Holiday Inn Express. Brand relationships remain strong.

Grupo Marta’s affiliate, Fantasy Tours, started operations in 1976, becoming one of the first travel agencies in the country. In the year 2000, the company joined internationally-known Gray Line Worldwide and promoted the brand’s expansion throughout Central America, attaining presence in five of the region’s countries.
Gray Line Costa Rica maintains a position on the chain’s Board of Directors.

In 2008, the company reflagged one of its airport properties as a Holiday Inn Express, introducing the brand to Central America.
Holiday Inn Express San José Airport Awards and Recognitions
In 1999, the first American diner in Costa Rica opened its doors adjacent to the Best Western Irazú. This Grupo Marta property was also the first Denny’s restaurant in the country. In 2005, a second restaurant was opened next to the Holiday Inn Express San José Airport hotel.
